Michael E. McGinley, P.Eng.
ARM Senior Track Engineer
Mike McGinley is a Registered Professional Engineer (Civil) engaged in railroad engineering, maintenance, and operations from 1966 to the present. As Senior Track Engineer on the ARM Team he is particularly qualified possessing a wealth of experience in both the public and private engineering sectors.
Mike's work with ARM includes:
•
Planning rail inspections and grinding operations, including forecasting of time required for on-track work, locations of track access, logistical support, and roadway worker provisions.
• Inspection of railroad track, both as an analysis of rail profiles determined in the inspection process and as a comprehensive assessment of the track alignment, maintenance condition, lubrication, and visible signs of rail stress.
• Planning rail replacement programs; forecasting future years’ replacement needs by evaluating rate of wear and defect history. Making adjustments to rail replacement forecasts based on the application of rail maintenance practices such as profile and defect removal grinding, lubrication, and establishing optimum passenger and freight speed based on curvature, superelevation, and the mix of traffic.
Mr. McGinley's career includes 21 years with Southern Pacific (including 3-year military leave), 5 years consulting engineering with Daniel, Mann, Johnson, & Mendenhall, 14 years with SCRRA (Metrolink), and extensive consulting work since retirement from SCRRA in 2006.
