Advanced Rail Management Corporation (ARM) has been awarded a five-year contract for turnkey rail/wheel optimization services on the San Diego Trolley Transit system. The contract includes investigation of existing rail/wheel conditions, analysis of current rail/wheel profiling strategy, design of optimized rail/wheel profiles, and supervision of all related work. ARM will measure and report on track and vehicle conditions before and after corrective measures are implemented while providing personnel and expertise for all practical field operations. Rail/wheel lifecycle projections, energy conservation, noise abatement and ride quality will be assessed as well.
Paul Jablonski, Chief Executive Officer of Metropolitan Transit System (MTA) made the announcement in November 2008 and designated Fred Byle, San Diego Trolley Maintenance Superintendent, as Project Manager. "Our goal at San Diego Trolley is to get the maximum life from both the rail and the wheels while improving the ride quality on our system," said Mr. Byle. "By having ARM manage the evaluation, design and implementation process from start to finish, I know that we are getting the best results possible."
The San Diego Trolley is a trolley-style light rail system operating in the metropolitan area of San Diego, California. The operator, San Diego Trolley, Inc. (SDTI) is a subsidiary of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS). The Trolley began service on July 26, 1981, making it the first modern light-rail system in California, and with 118,400 daily ridership, it is currently the sixth most-ridden light rail system in the United States.
